Life Skills & Independence Support
Doing more for yourself builds confidence and opens up new choices. Junee Community Centre’s NDIS life skills and capacity building support helps participants learn practical skills for everyday living, at their own pace, with encouragement from a local team that celebrates every success.
Skills we can help you build
- Cooking, meal planning and grocery shopping
- Budgeting and managing money
- Household routines: cleaning, laundry and keeping a schedule
- Personal care routines and looking after your health
- Using public services, making appointments and getting around town
- Communication, social skills and building confidence
Learning by doing
We teach skills in real settings, in your home, at the shops or out in the community, so what you learn sticks. Your support worker will work alongside you rather than doing things for you, gradually stepping back as your confidence grows.
Goals that matter to you
Whether you’re preparing to live more independently, building skills after leaving school or simply want to manage more of your own day, we’ll help you set clear goals and track your progress. That progress can also help at your next plan review.
Need support at short notice?
We welcome short-notice and same-day support requests. We’ll check worker availability, the location and the support required, then confirm whether we can assist. This includes participants, support coordinators and other NDIS providers needing temporary cover.
Same-day support cannot be guaranteed. For short-notice requests, call 02 6924 2666 during office hours.
Funding your support
Funding for life skills support depends on the type of support and the funding available in your plan. We’ll discuss the proposed service with you and, with your consent, your plan manager or support coordinator before confirming arrangements.
Any applicable worker travel or participant transport charges will be explained and agreed before services begin, in accordance with relevant NDIS requirements.
Where we provide life skills support
We support participants in Junee, Wagga Wagga, Coolamon, Temora, Cootamundra and Gundagai.
Frequently asked questions
Is life skills support one-on-one or in a group?
Life skills support can be one-on-one. Where it fits your goals and agreed supports, it can also be built into suitable existing Junee Community Centre programs, community activities and one-off events, giving you the chance to practise communication, social interaction, planning, budgeting and everyday routines. See our Group Activities & Community Participation page and monthly calendar for what’s on.
How long does it take?
Everyone learns at their own pace. We’ll review your goals regularly and adjust support as you progress.
Can support coordinators refer participants?
Yes. We welcome referrals from support coordinators, plan managers and Local Area Coordinators.
